Rediscovering a classic again- Pop

Last weekend, I took the time to go listen to "Pop". And I cannot understand the hate.

It is a truly epic album in every sense of the word. From first track to the last, it's a fun and epic experience. Here we have an album that's catchy, trancy and irresistible, yet simultaneously cold, hard, and angry. There are plenty memorable songs on the album, that it makes for a good hour.

I mean, you have the fun opener "Discotheque" which puts you in a party mood. "If God Will Send His Angels" and "Staring at the Sun" are both reflective and excellent tracks. But the best song is "Mofo", a very personal song with a catchy and trancy beat, mixed with an adrenaline rush of a bassline. The chorus "Mother...am I still your son?" sends shivers down my spine.

Also, "If You Wear that Velvet Dress" brings back memories- it was my first U2 song i heard as a small kid. It was an amazing time as a kid.

The whole album to me is amazing. What about you?

There are a fair amount of rumors going around about U2's plans for the rest of the year -- these are mostly coming from other U2 sites, so we don't have any direct word or sources able to say how strong the rumors are. Still, if you haven't been keeping up with it all, here's our best attempt at a recap of what's being said.

So, if Songs of Ascent ever manages to gnaw its way out of whatever cage U2 have put it in, and escapes and gets into the shops, here's what I'd like to see/hear:

--> CD: No more overpriced, multiple editions of the album. Too many choices just turn people off--especially when they're way overpriced for what's included beyond the disc itself. NLOTH was a classic example of of this; all but the most dedicated U2 fans probably just walked away with nothing, rather than have to decipher all the different versions of the album. Conversely, serious collectors also dislike the "deluxe" and not-really-that-limited editions that get cranked out. Keep it simple: All on one CD, or don't do it. And keep the price realistic; no one is going to pay $50 (or more!) for a new CD, not when we all know that you can buy a whole stack of CD-Rs at the drugstore for under $20. ...

Did anyone else notice that this mix sounds exactly like the mix on the cd 'The Best Of 1990-2000 & B-Sides'? (Big Yam Mix)

OK, so let me get this straight. A polaroid of Bono from 1987 sold for 1000 euros,. I honestly thought that photos were suppose to be only worth a 1000 words. How odd is that dollar amount. I guess someone paid a dollar a thought. If my mean daughter would help me like she said she was I would have posted my photos by now and they are much older than the photo she sold. I scanned them and sent them over to her to put on photobucket but she didn't do it for me and took off to freaking Utah for the weekend. Just called me from the airport. So, I just thought it sure was strange that a pic went for that kind of money, Bono must have been butt naked in it or something LOL. I don't think it was a poor showing for the auction, I think the auction itself was in poor taste.

Neil McCormick explains why he holds a grudge against U2’s frontman

When self-confessed rock star failure Neil McCormick put pen to paper for his 2003 memoir Killing Bono, little did he realise how his tales of living in the U2 frontman’s shadow would click with fans of the Irish supergroup.

As a former schoolmate of Bono — real name Paul Hewson — McCormick was perhaps better poised to recount the trials and tribulations of the singer than many rock writers.
