I have to admit, When "No Line" came out, I was a little disappointed.
However, after several month's. I can't stop listening to at least 8 song's.
I am 39 years old, and hope I hear new U2 till I die.
Thank you boy's!

It has grown on me as well but not as much that I would put it in my top 5 of U2 albums.. When it came out it was about their worst album, now it's somewhere in the middle for me. Also, my favourite songs of the album in the beginning, are not my favourite songs now anymore and vice versa. When it came out and I listened to it for the first time, Magnificent was my favourite track, now it's not even in my top 5 anymore. If I have to pick 5 tracks it would be (in this order): Breathe, No line on the horizon, Unknown Caller, Fez-Being Born, I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight.
Where I would put No line in the list: 1. Achtung Baby 2. The Joshua Tree 3. All that you can't leave behind 4. The unforgettable fire 5. How to dismantle an atomic bomb 6. Boy 7. No line on the horizon 8. Pop 9. Zooropa 10. Rattle&Hum 11. October 12. War (sorry.. never been a War fan.... Don't know why) |

im suprised with the negative reaction the album has got. personally me, with u2's last two album efforts just scream meat and potatoes albums. u2 doing what u2 shouldnt be doing. writing or trying to write albums with songs full of hits. although it seemed to take the fear factor out of u2 with the shock of pop, a move inwhich they didnt have to take, worked well for them and the record sales. 11 million copies of behind sold, doesnt make it a masterpiece for me. bomb on the other hand is slightly better with some crunch from the edge. but a mix match of production losses my interest.
no line when i first heard it, i was instantly hooked. it reminded me of listening to u2 in 1985 again, unforgettable fire, u2 writing music which takes you somewhere and it mirror's the unforgettable fire for me in so many ways. fuck having a hit song, the charts are for acts which appeal to kids these days and u2 shouldnt worry about a lack of a hit single. today i think its an incredible piece of work and i hope u2 continue to make the music they love rather than pleasing the american audience with american rawk. i hope they do make that big rock record, but im all for the mellow songs of ascent first. it isnt time to call rick rubin just yet. ![]() |

I didn't like NLOTH when it came out, and I still don't like it. They haven't made a real good album since POP tbh...

Time and the tour really helped to get me deeper into this album... Unknown Caller and Magnificent are maybe the songs that most grew on me, and I'm even starting to like Crazy! :P But, I think I still don't "own" it fully. And sometimes the lyrics aren't that brilliant (same problem as HTDAAB).

I really love the songs on this album, both musically and lyrically. I find it both melodic and "dee" - it contains songs to sing along with and words to make you think, or ponder might be a better choice of words. And for me it did take a few listens on some songs to get it.

I'm having a love/hate relationship with the album and haven't reconciled it yet. Not sure if I will. I prefer the band when they are out in the ether experimenting with new sounds/styles but trying to make it more palatable to the mainstream (i.e. pretty much their approach to their 90s works - hey it's this stuff they really got me into them and I don't apologise for that).
I have been listening to some songs off NLOTH quite regularly of late (I am a big fan of Magnificent, Boots, White as Snow, FEZ and Breathe). I have found that Boots, FEZ and Breathe are awesome songs for driving down the highway at high speed :) But, I really despise some of the others (i.e. Moment of Surrender, Crazy) and find others just quite ordinary and a rehash of the "glory days." I probably will never get over The Edge rehashing the riff from The Fly in the title track - I just find it really lazy - hence my preference for their more punk, grungy alternative version of that song - I still hope they start playing the alternative version live in 2010. I've said it on a couple of other threads, but I think the idea of releasing a few EPs of experimental material over the course of 2009-10 would have been a better approach - it would have been a more measured way of getting more recent fans used to U2's experimental side - I mean c'mon - after all these years we know that the 'real' U2 want to make cutting edge (excuse the pun) inspiring music. The days we currently live in aren't conducive to sudden, massive change within any realm of social/political/pop culture unfortunately and I kinda feel that the band (or Univeral Music) may have watered down NLOTH on that realisation (because they didn't want to completely alientate people). For me, the album has no central point, no real focus - I guess that's at least consistent with the album's title. :) To me NLOTH sounds like a blend of the previous two albums with a few tricks and quirks from Brian Eno thrown into the mix. This has been disappointing for me considering Bono was previously hamming this album up to be "Achtung Baby on steroids." I own all of U2's albums, EPs, many singles and rarities etc. I don't see NLOTH as U2's worse album, but this is the only album I've had the most difficulty with to date. I like a challenge - I may come around eventually... :) If my two cents is worth anything, I would like to see U2 release "songs of ascent" as a very advertised experimental EP of about 8 songs - preferably under a less Christian sounding name - early in 2010 (at the same time that the Spiderman score is released) and, then release another EP of around 5-8 live songs from the current tour around Sept 2010. Anyway, I'll shut up now. |

Magnificent Moment of SurrenderUnknown Caller Crazy Stand up FEZ Breathe Cedars of Lebanon are all great songs with lots of heart behind the music and Lyrics. funny how I love 9 out of 11 songs on a U2 album and it still is not at the top of the list. once again, GOOD JOB BOY'S! |

I love the new album , always thought it was good , honestly not as good as other albums , but I love the lyrics , the music , the whole impression its supposed to give and the feel of emotion which seems to be lacking unless you can really understand and relate to the music...........in my opinion its a so to speak , a humble album which some people and I exclaim '' some! people dont posses in nature...........
Love the Album , well done guys , maybe next work on glory for you, I , God and all.................... |

Its a great album, it was great when it first came out & I still think its a great album.... agree totally with Basher
1. Unforgettable Fire 2. Achtung Baby 2. NLOTH 4. War 4. Joshua Tree 6. Boy 7. HTDAAB 8. Zooropa 9. ATYCLB 10. October 11. Pop This list changes constantly apart from the 1st This is one band which has constantly challenged itself, making music is not easy, writing songs is not easy, most people don't really listen to the music, people without a musical ear only listen to the complete sound. I can't say that I really dislike any of the albums, I dislike some tracks & might skip one or two but can't say I dislike an album.
