I was 18 years old, doing a year of 'A' level retakes at college. A guy I know there had got me into indie music after selling me a load of his 70s 'rock' albums in 1981. He told me that U2 were well worth going along to. I'd only really heard some of tracks from 'War' at this point - U2 were just another of a huge number of indie bands to me at the time. I enjoyed the show - a lot of jumping around in a lively crowd, Bono having a pop at the music press, and climbing up from the PA to the seats in the circle above us and doing a few lines there in the aisle. Once the show was over, I found a discarded blue jumper on the floor that its owner no longer required, which I quite liked, took home and wore for a few years until it got caught on some barbed wire on the east coast of Spain (long story). Little did I know at the time that I'd be attending a lot more concerts by this band, but I could see they had energy and could work a crowd. I bought 'War' soon after, and my U@ journey had begun.
